India is full of beautiful scenery, delicious cuisine, sacred sites, and some of the best festivals you will ever find yourself attending.  While you are there, you will find yourself wondering which way you should go, as there are so many choices and so little time.  

Here are 13 amazing things to do in India:

1) Festivals

 

There are quite a few festivals in India, and you will want to attend as many as possible while you are there.  They are a fantastic way to experience the culture of this country while also immersing yourself into the lives of the locals.  The best ones include the Ganesh Chaturthi, Holi, Diwali, Camel Fair, and the Temple Festivals.  

 

2) Gali Paranthe Wali


In the middle of Old Delhi, you must visit this food lane, which can be found in the Chandni Chowk market.  There are numerous eateries here, but the best ones have been around for more than one hundred years.  They all serve parathas, which is a flatbread that is normally stuffed with potatoes, but here you can get it stuffed with anything from cheese to squash to mixed vegetables and more.  

 

3)Taj Mahal


Shah Jahan built this spectacular memorial for his third wife who died during childbirth.  The building looks as beautiful today as it did when it was first constructed, and while you can see most of the building, you unfortunately cannot see the tombs of Jahan and his wife.  

 

4) City Palace

 

The City Palace is comprised of courtyards, gardens, and buildings, and it can be found in the center of the Old City.  Your tour will include the Mubarak Mahal, the Armoury, and the Diwan-i-Am Art Gallery.  

 

5) See the Big 5

 

There is a lot of wildlife in India, but you will want to make sure that you see the big five, the Bengal tiger, Asiatic lion, snow leopard, clouded leopard, and Indian leopard.  

 

6) Ajanta and Ellora Caves

 

The Ajanta and Ellora Caves were carved by hand in to the hillside rocks out in the middle of nowhere, and cave number sixteen at Ellora is the most famous with the life size elephant sculptures.  

 

7) Goa Beaches

The beaches of Goa are quite different with the ones to the north being full of action and adventures and the ones further south being quiet and low-key.  Depending on what you are looking for will determine which direction you head when you arrive in Goa.  

 

8) Attend a Cooking Class

Learning how to prepare the delicious Indian cuisine that you are enjoying while in India will help you make it once you return home, and there are plenty of classes for you to choose from.  

 

9) Go on an Adventure

There are plenty of adventures in India, and you will want to take advantage of as many of them as you can.  You might want to try white water rafting, paragliding, hot air ballooning, or heli-skiing to name a few.  

 

10) Ayurveda


Ayurveda is India’s traditional natural healing practice, which they have used for more than five thousand years.  If you are looking for additional relaxation or want to heal from a less serious medical condition, then you may want to consider researching this treatment or giving it a try.  

 

11) Camel Safari

One of the best ways to explore India is on the back of a camel as you experience nature at its best.  There are many tour options including camping out under the stars.  

 

12) Golden Temple


This golden temple is very inviting, from both the distance and up close.  While there, you will want to venture into Langar Hall, where everyone receives a free meal.  You simply sit on the floor, accept your meal, eat, and then leave.  

 

13) Ranakpur Jain Temple


There is not much to do in the village of Ranakpur, but it is where one of the most important Jain temples is located.  It dates to the 15th century and has fourteen hundred intricately carved pillars, of which none of them are the same.
